Fat Media’s MD, John French, has been named ‘The Young ‘Un of 2016’ in Lancashire Business View’s prestigious Young ‘Un awards.
These awards celebrate the young talent in Lancashire – being open only to those under the age of 36. They seek to reward individuals in a range of industries, including legal, engineering, tourism and retail.
Having been nominated in the Creative and Digital category, and the initial written entry making the shortlist, it was up to John to impress the judges at a face-to-face interview. Impress them he did, as rather than winning the category, John was named ‘The Young Un of 2016′ – the Publishers’ Choice award for the most outstanding entry overall.
Richard Slater, MD and Publishing Editor of Lancashire Business View, explained why John was given the top award:
“This person’s story is a remarkable one, and it’s a story that demands recognition and commands respect.
He launched his business in 2005. He was then an enthusiastic, fresh-faced 21-year-old. He’s now an enthusiastic and annoyingly still fresh-faced 32-year-old.
The business grew in the north of the county to a point where more growth required new investment.
He secured that investment and now leads a marketing business with more than 1,500 clients, including Typhoo, JD Sports, Iceland and Lancaster University.
And yet our Young ‘Un of the Year remains humble, approachable, affable. He is generous with his time. His work ethic is admirable. His attitude to his staff is commendable.
He’s an inspiration to young businesses who aspire to match his achievements. And he’s an inspiration to me.”
